Details

Author Michael Fowler grew up in Waipawa and remembers many family holidays, with his parents and brother Pete, in Napier during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Naturally, exploring Marine Parade was a feature of these trips. Michael fondly recalls enjoying the various attractions – especially the boating lake – and vividly remembers visiting the Sunken Gardens not long after it opened in 1970. This book is a history of Marine Parade from 1854 to 2024. The sea wall, Norfolk Island Pines, soundshell. Veronica Bay, Pania, War Memorial Hall, Aquarium, Marineland - and many more attractions are featured. The book is in colour throughout, and has hundreds of photographs, in addition to the stories that accompany them. It is Michael’s tribute to a place which gave him so many happy childhood memories, as it has – and will still do – for many thousands throughout the ages.
